Considering Braces for Kids or Need Other Treatments? See an Orthodontist
If you’re considering braces for kids or other orthodontic treatment, it is recommended you see an orthodontist with specialized training. Why? Orthodontists are specialists with the years of extra training and education necessary to make sure your smile ends up looking and feeling its best 1.

What are Braces for Kids?
A straight, healthy smile starts early! If your child has crooked teeth, gaps, or bite issues, braces for kids can help guide their teeth into perfect alignment for better function and confidence.
At Great Smiles, we specialize in friendly orthodontics, offering:
- Traditional Metal Braces – Durable, effective, and colorful bands for a fun touch!
- Clear Braces – A subtle, less noticeable option.
- Early Orthodontic Evaluations – Catch issues before they become bigger problems!
The best time for an orthodontic check-up is around age 7, but treatment varies based on your child’s needs.

Phase I Treatment
We think of braces as a teen thing, but that’s just not true. When your child starts developing their smile, Phase I treatment can make sure that you’re taking all the steps for great tooth and jaw growth. Early treatment can create room for crowded teeth, reduce tooth removal, adjust jaw growth, and more.
Between the ages of 7 and 10, our orthodontists for children will closely monitor your child’s smile to catch signs of early issues and prevent bigger problems later. Sometimes, treatment isn’t necessary – but we still want to keep an eye on your child’s smile just in case!
Phase II Treatment
After Phase I, we check in on how your child is doing and let their permanent teeth come in. If any orthodontic issues pop up, we treat them with comprehensive orthodontic care. If your kid has completed Phase I with us, we’ll have tons of great documentation about their dental history to create the perfect treatment plan. The result? An incredible smile!
FAQ
What age should a child go to orthodontist?
When should I start orthodontic treatment for my child?
At Great Smiles, we recommend scheduling an orthodontic consultation for your child around age 7. This early visit allows our experts to assess their jaw growth and emerging teeth. While treatment may not begin right away, it’s a great opportunity to identify any potential issues and create a personalized plan for a healthy, confident smile down the road.
Who are Braces for Kids right for?
Braces are a great solution for kids who have alignment issues that could affect their dental health, confidence, or overall well-being. These alignment issues include crooked teeth, gaps between teeth, and bite issues. A pediatric orthodontic evaluation can help determine if braces are the best option for your child.
