What made you interested in becoming a pediatric dentist?

I was drawn to pediatric dentistry because of its emphasis on teaching, coaching and personal growth. Clinical excellence is still paramount, but not quite as important as your ability to inspire joy and enthusiasm in your patients.

What’s the best part of your day?

I love to see tangible reinforcement that our office makes a difference in the lives of our patients. When a child who was once hesitant or scared of the dentist arrives for an appointment with confidence and enthusiasm, that’s when I know that our work means something.

What’s a specific favorite memory from Great Smiles?

Walking in the Sylva Christmas parade dressed as Hermie the Elf sticks out – it felt fantastic to give our community some well-deserved smiles and laughs!

What do you like to do when you aren’t helping people with their smiles?

Cooking has become a new hobby of mine, especially barbecue! Some of my favorite weekends are spent at home with my wife and dogs, with a pork shoulder on the smoker and Buccaneers football on the television!

How did school influence you?

Dental school at Penn and pediatric residency at Florida were challenging but extremely rewarding experiences. Learning the fundamentals of pediatric dentistry in such uniquely diverse places like Philadelphia and rural Southwest Florida shaped the goals I continue to strive for as a clinician.

Fun Facts About Me

Choose a Superpower: My wife and I love to travel, so the ability to fly around at crazy speeds like Superman would sure make that a whole lot easier!

Career You Thought You’d Have as a Kid: I thought I wanted to be an architect! Before that, I was certain that I’d be a Hall of Fame wide receiver in the NFL – that didn’t work out so well when I grew up to have pediatric dentist-sized hands.

Favorite music: I’m really all over the map when it comes to music, but my favorite artist is probably Sturgill Simpson.

Favorite sports: I’m really opening a serious can of worms here… If it’s on television, I’m probably watching it. The teams that give me the most joy/heartbreak, though, (in no particular order) are the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Auburn Tigers.

Favorite Food: Mexican! Or sushi! Or barbecue! Why are you doing this to me?!
