What is the best part of your day?

The time I get to talk with and get to know my patient and families better. I really believe that there is nothing more important in life than the relationships you have the privilege to develop!

Why did you decide to become an Orthodontist?

I grew up in a small South Carolina town, Cheraw SC where my father, Dr. Mike Blackman, was the town’s Dentist. He moved my family from North Carolina to Cheraw on a rural dental incentive program when he first came out of dental school. It was a special way growing up, seeing the honor my Dad took in serving his patients in our beautiful southern town. My mother helped run his office and my siblings and I spent many afternoons and weekends helping at the office as well. I loved the aspect of working with my family to serve others.

What is a favorite memory at Great Smiles?

Every day I get to help our team and work side by side with my wife, Dr. Stephanie Chambers, to bring smiles and confidence to our Great Smiles Family. One early February morning I arrived at the Asheville office to pick up some office supplies to take to our North Asheville office. As I got back into my car, I noticed that many of our team members had their faces to the window watching me get in my car. Just then from out of the pitch black someone grabbed me from the back seat. It scared me to death and everyone looking out the window was dying laughing. My wife Dr. Stephanie and I take great pride in the lengths we will go to prank / scare each other.

What do you do when not treating patients?

My passion outside of making people smile is coaching the youth of WNC in various sports! I love seeing a young child build confidence through sports engagement and witnessing the excitement of cheering on their team.
